Another benefit of a manual transmission. Another anti-theft device I've considered using before is a kill switch. I think I'll install one whenever I get something with an automatic transmission.

What is the percentage of manual able drivers in the US? I wonder if it is the majority since these stories keep coming up. For reference in the UK in 2013 it was over 95%.

I doubt it's above 10%.

What really upsets me is that translates to people getting right up on my bumper and not realizing the car rolls a bit unless I am very careful and seriously use the e brake. They have no clue in their dumb crossover bubble.

What sort of car?
And yeah - I had to learn hill starts on my own, and there were a few tense moments.

240Z, triple carbs so its a little inconsistent from a stop, oh and in San Francisco. I try to do routes in the car in SF that don't involve huge hills where I know I will get a light.

Funny - when I read "e brake" I read it electronic brake, that non-mechanical thing everyone hates (and I have yet to experience). I don't know why everyone doesn't do the Subaru hill holder thing. Pretty ingenious.

I haven't tried the Subie system, the early Z is so bare bones.

Drove a friend's Forester that had it - never really tested it, but on a moderate hill it gave a bit of confidence.
